Before we begin, let’s take a look at what Black Swan even means…
The term Black Swan event was popularized by Nassim Nicholas Taleb, a former Wall Street trader, in his book “The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable.” It refers to rare and unpredictable events that have a significant impact on society and the economy. Examples of past Black Swan events include the 9/11 attacks, the global financial crisis of 2008, and the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020.
It’s impossible to predict when the next Black Swan event will occur or how it will look like. However, several factors could trigger such an event, including geopolitical tensions, economic imbalances, climate change, and technological disruption.
Geopolitical tensions could escalate due to trade disputes, military conflicts, or political instability in various parts of the world, leading to a Black Swan event. For instance, a sudden military conflict between major powers could trigger a global economic meltdown, which we are already seeing across Russia and Ukraine and isolated incidents in Middle East.
Economic imbalances such as high levels of debt, inflation, or deflation could also trigger a Black Swan event. The collapse of a major financial institution, a sudden currency devaluation, or a stock market crash could have significant consequences for the global economy.
